The 7th Obis Omni Forum: Review

Senior business and IT personnel gathered at the 7th Obis Omni Forum to help them better harness the power of the cloud while its sister community, The Cloud Circle, hosted its 8th Forum, yesterday (24 November).

Yesterday Obis Omni and its cloud computing sister community The Cloud Circle held dual Forum events at the Victoria Park Plaza in London with both events garnering fantastic feedback from the senior business and IT delegates in attendance.

Obis Omni held its 7th Forum while The Cloud Circle conference was up to its 8th iteration.

At both events delegates engaged in high level thought leadership insight and networking, with the programmes featuring key note presentations, panel debates, case studies and interactive industry sector focussed round-tables. Attendees were also given opportunities to network among their peers and meet with an array of solutions providers in their respective fields.
At the Obis Omni event, the leading draws included an extremely insightful introduction to ‘big data’ from Mark Whitehorn, chair of analytics at the School of Computing at the University of Dundee, and further presentations from the likes of Microsoft, TAH, Madelo, Advanced Business Solutions and Wherescape.

A panel debate including some of the day’s speakers was also on the agenda. Chaired by Mark Whitehorn, the panel fielded a range of probing questions around how to best implement BI solutions and retrieve optimum business value from any project you undertake. One of the highlights of the day was the industry sector round-table discussions, allowing delegates to share their thoughts and experiences with peers plying their trade in the same industry. There were also the all-important opportunities to network with other attendees and meet suppliers for bespoke advice and guidance throughout out the day.

The Cloud Circle event, meanwhile, was a repeat programme from the 7th Forum in September – necessitated by the extraordinarily high demand for places the first time around.
As well as presentations from representatives of CSC, InTechnology, IBM, EMC Ionix and Google, Mimecast, IBM, delegates at The Cloud Circle event heard a case study first hand from Endsleigh Insurance and a further one from Virtustream on the work they did with Florida Crystals – the owner of Tate & Lyle.

Subject matters throughout the day took in the ever complex and oft misunderstood matter of security, the latest trends and outlook for cloud, the methods of ensuring cloud implementation projects are business focussed, the benefits of collaborative technologies, and tips for efficient migration to cloud.
Emma Taylor, founder and managing director of The Cloud Circle and Obis Omni, said she was extremely proud of how both events unfolded, with delegates reporting back that the Forums had once again provided invaluable practical insights as well as food for thought on industry best practice.

In addition, she said there was a high number of people in attendance that had never been to a Cloud Circle or Obis Omni event, illustrating that the markets, especially cloud computing, is now extending its reach across the UK business landscape.

She said: “It was great to see so many new faces at both events. It always a pleasure to see the Obis Omni community remain as vibrant and highly valued as it has been in the past. All the feedback we have received so far has been extremely positive, for both events.

“The Obis Omni Forum is now a must-go event on the calendar for our Obis Omni members and I’m really pleased that people are looking to the Forum to find out the answers to the problems they are faced with in their day-to-day projects.”
